Privacy Policy

TaxTrail · Last updated 7 August 2026

The short version. Your receipts — the photographs, the text read from them, the amounts, and the categories — are processed on your device and stored on your device. They are never uploaded to us. There is no account, and TaxTrail has no server that receives your receipt data.

What stays on your device

Everything you scan. Specifically:

DataWhere it lives
Receipt photographsYour device's app storage
Text recognized from receiptsA database on your device
Merchants, dates, amounts, sales tax, categoriesSame database
Merchant and city tax-rate memoryYour device

Text recognition runs entirely on your device using Apple's built-in Vision framework. No image or text is sent anywhere for processing.

What leaves your device, and when

Exports — only when you choose. When you export a CSV, spreadsheet, TXF, QuickBooks file, or receipt archive, TaxTrail hands the file to iOS's share sheet and you choose the destination. We never see it and have no copy.

Purchases. If you buy TaxTrail Pro, the transaction is handled by Apple under Apple's privacy policy. Subscription status is managed for us by RevenueCat, which receives your purchase history and an anonymous, app-generated identifier so it can tell the app whether your subscription is active. That identifier is not linked to your name, email, or Apple ID, and RevenueCat receives no location data beyond your locale and currency. RevenueCat never receives your receipt data — no images, no recognized text, no merchants or amounts. See RevenueCat's privacy policy. If you never make a purchase, this does not apply to you.

Nothing else. There is no analytics SDK, no crash-reporting SDK, no advertising SDK, and no tracking. TaxTrail does not show ads and does not sell, share, or monetize your data in any form.

Permissions the app asks for

PermissionWhy
CameraTo photograph receipts. Images are processed on-device.
Photo libraryOnly to import a receipt picture you select.
Face IDOptional. Locks the app on your device. No biometric data is read or stored by TaxTrail — iOS only reports success or failure.
Location (while in use)Optional, for mileage logging. Trip data stays on your device. Decline it and the rest of the app works normally.

Deleting your data

Delete a receipt in the app and its record and image are removed from your device. Delete the app and everything goes with it. Because we never had a copy, there is nothing for you to ask us to erase — but note that anything you exported yourself lives wherever you sent it, and device backups you have enabled (such as iCloud Backup) may contain app data under Apple's terms.

Children

TaxTrail is a business-expense tool intended for adults and is not directed at children under 13.

Changes
